Shape up Australia, targeted at Australians of all ages, is
a campaign initiative run by the Australian government aimed to address Australia’s
growing obesity epidemic and reduce the prevalence and impact of lifestyle
related diseases by helping individuals to better manage healthy lifestyles.
By promoting and encouraging an evidence based approach to obesity prevention and reduce confusion about healthy eating and life-style choices, shape up Australia aims to reduce the growing obesity epidemic within Australia. They put forth knowledge about healthy eating behaviours and exercise regimes to educate individual on the basis of a healthy lifestyle.
A follow up program initiated by the 2014 campaign swap it don’t stop it, shape it up Australia also aims to reduce the waistline of your everyday Australian and improve overall health and wellbeing by promoting healthy portion sizes and healthy behaviours in a way that encourages them to make a change.

Strategies used to promote awareness and reduce obesity in youth
Strategy 1: promotes
the idea of a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the risk of obesity by
encouraging youth to make life-style related changes to their lives in terms of
what they eat, and the level of activity they are involved in. healthy
life-style related choices in which this campaign promotes is essential to
reducing the risk of obesity in Australian youth.
Strategy 2: encourages individuals to change unhealthy habits and replace them with healthy ones to reduce the risk of obesity while not affecting the way in which they live their lives or limiting what they can and can’t do. E.g. walking to school rather than driving, swapping an ice-cream for a fruit salad, or swapping large portions for smaller portions.
Strategy 3: promotes tools and resources that enable Australians to find eating well and stay active easy, including; the eat for health cookbook which implements the Australian dietary guidelines and makes healthy eating easy; the ‘Shape Up’ app, which guides individuals through a twelve week eating plan that covers the daily requirements of the five food groups per day; an activity tracker which helps to monitor your level of physical activity, as well as a weight monitor to keep track of changes in your weight.
